Nottingham Forest’s 1977–80 period under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor stands as one of the most extraordinary success stories in football history.
In 1976/77, Forest were promoted from the Second Division, and astonishingly, they won the First Division title at their first attempt in 1977/78, finishing seven points clear. The team, led by John McGovern, featured stars like John Robertson, Kenny Burns, and Peter Shilton.
They followed up with more glory: winning the League Cup in 1978 and 1979, and capturing the European Cup in 1979, defeating Malmö 1–0. By 1979/80, Forest retained the European Cup, beating Hamburg 1–0, cementing their place among Europe’s elite.
